The most important factor in delivering better health outcomes for veterans is surrounding them with a community support structure built on deep relationships with people who know what they’re going through. When it comes to hearing health, learning to live with tinnitus and/or hearing loss, these are some of the key organizations dedicated to supporting people with hearing loss.
Veterans Crisis Line — Support for Deaf/Hard of Hearing
The confidential Veterans Crisis Line is available to all veterans and their families and friends in times of crisis. If you are a veteran, service member, or any person concerned about one who is hard of hearing, you can connect with professional, caring VA responders over the phone/TTY 800-799-4889, text (838255) and through online chat.
American Tinnitus Association
The core purpose of the American Tinnitus Association (ATA) is to promote relief, prevent and find cures for tinnitus. Since 1971, the 501(c)3 non-profit organization has been a global leader in the effort to find a cure for tinnitus. ATA brings together patients, researchers, healthcare professionals, industry partners and lawmakers to advance public understanding of tinnitus and fund vital tinnitus research.
Association of Late-Deafened Adults
Late-deafened adults are people who have lost the ability to understand speech with or without hearing aids after acquiring spoken language. ALDA is a self-help group created to support adults who have lost their hearing.
Center for Hearing and Communication
The Center for Hearing and Communication’s (CHC) mission is to provide high-quality, comprehensive services to empower people affected by hearing loss, deafness or listening challenges. This includes screening, testing, tinnitus counseling and treatment, psychotherapy and more.
Hearing Health Foundation
The Hearing Health Foundation’s (HHF) mission is to prevent and cure hearing loss and tinnitus and to promote hearing health. HHF is the largest non-profit funder of hearing and balance research in the U.S., and a leader in driving innovative treatments for people with hearing loss, tinnitus and other hearing disorders. Hearing Loss Association of America
The Hearing Loss Association of American (HLAA) was founded in 1979 by Howard “Rocky” Stone, a retired CIA agent, who endured hearing loss from his service in the United States Army. HLAA strives to give people the tools they need to live successfully with hearing loss ensuring they do not have to face hearing loss alone.
